About the CDM Competence Directory

What is the CDM Competence Directory?

The online Competence directory is a free, accessible to all one central port of call for checking that Designers, Principal Contractors, CDM Coordinators and Clients are CDM competent before assigning them to a particular project, as required by Regulation 4 of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007, in line with the HSE core criteria.

It can also be used to find CDM competent professionals for your individual projects.

The directory has an advanced intuitive search ability that helps you access the right people for the right projects.

You do not need to login or submit any of your information in order to access the directory; it is open to all anytime.

Who will use the CDM Competence Directory?

Clients

It is one of the main duties of a Client to ensure that they only appoint
CDM competent companies/individuals.

They can easily and quickly access the free, open to all, on line directory to check that Companies / individuals he/she is employing are competent as required by the HSE Core Criteria. This costs the Client nothing.

By checking all they appoint are on the directory the client will be complying with Regulation 4 of the CDM regulations. It is seen as good practice for clients to only appoint companies/individuals that are on the directory, and will prove in law courts that they have fulfilled their duty under CDM.

By requesting all companies / individuals you appoint are on the directory you can ensure that you are always working with a competent team. This costs nothing.

If Clients came across any companies / individuals that they thought needed helpful, friendly and non judgemental assistance in their system and procedures or understanding of CDM they could forward them on the CDM Competence for assistance to become CDM Competent.

Designers

Designers would use the directory to check that their fellow team mates are also competent in CDM.

By being on the directory themselves Designers can prove to others that they have been checked and are competent, also they will have the assurance that they are confident that their company have approved systems and procedures that are in line with the current HSE requirements.

They will be given unlimited help and assistance on any CDM matters that arise within any of their projects.

If Designers came across any companies / individuals that they thought needed helpful, friendly, non judgemental assistance in their system and procedures or understanding of CDM they could forward them on the CDM Competence for assistance to become CDM competent.

CDM Coordinators

It is also one of the CDM Co-ordinators duties to assist the client in only appointing CDM competent Companies / individuals.

By accessing the CDM Competence Directory this will save the CDM Co-ordiantor from performing laborious time consuming competence checks, they can just go on line, look up proposed company / individual, check they are suitable for that particular contract in question by looking at the more information on the company. This costs the CDM Co-ordinator nothing.

Principal Contractors would use the directory to check that their sub contractors that they appoint are CDM Competent, and also by being on the directory themselves Principal Contractors can prove to others that they have been checked and are competent as required.
